Title (EN):
ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS OF THE SUBURBANIZATION PROCESS AND THEIR IMPACTS ON THE FUNCTIONING OF SMALL MUNICIPALITIES
Abstract (EN):
The aim of the article is to identify the basic environmental problems and challenges that the process of suburbanization brings to municipalities in the hinterland of larger cities and also to recommend possible solutions to ensure a sustainable development of the territory, both in terms of development processes and expenditure management. In terms of methodology, the research combined qualitative elements (interviews with mayors) with quantitative elements (Likert scale, correlation). It was confirmed that municipal representatives reflect the environmental impacts of suburbanization, mainly due to the insufficient networking and inadequate capacity of transport and technical infrastructure, changes in the landscape and increased costs associated with the growth of municipalities. In relation to the future, local governments need a higher level of regulation as well as stricter and more consistent planning.
